A Trump Judge Just Blocked Overtime Pay for Millions… Media is Silent

A federal judge named Sean D. Jordan from Texas just made a ruling blocking President Biden’s policy to provide guaranteed overtime pay to workers who make less than $58,656 a year.
The lawsuit was filed against the Biden administration in Texas by the Republican Attorney General of Texas and various right-wing business groups aligned with Trump.
The lawsuit was deliberately brought in Texas to find a Trump-appointed judge who would ultimately rule against President Biden and against workers. The lawsuit is titled Texas v. Department of Labor, E.D. Tex., No. 24-00499, and I bet you’ve never even heard of it until now.
The facts in this case are simple: President Biden has been the most pro-labor president in American history, despite the media failing to report on his accomplishments for workers.
In keeping with his pro-labor policies, President Biden’s Department of Labor issued a new rule stating that if you earn less than $58,656 a year, your employer cannot classify you as an “exempt employee” to deny you overtime pay. This rule would have provided overtime pay to at least 4 million Americans, if not more. The State of Texas and business groups sued the Biden administration to block this rule, claiming it was bad for business.
Surprise, surprise—on Friday, the Trump-appointed Texas federal judge ruled against workers and in favor of the State of Texas and the business groups. The judge issued a “nationwide injunction” blocking President Biden’s rule to provide overtime pay to millions of Americans. This ruling by the Texas judge affects the entire country.
There will likely be no appeal of this ruling since the Trump DOJ and Department of Labor are supportive of it.
Even if the ruling were appealed, it would stand little to no chance of success because the appeals court and the Supreme Court are stacked with anti-labor MAGA judges. The point of this story isn’t to discourage you—it’s to give you a clear picture of what’s happening in America. Other than this Substack, and perhaps a few others, this major ruling is receiving zero media coverage. Corporate media—owned by billionaires who directly benefit from this ruling—refuses to report that Trump hates, despises, loathes, mocks, and constantly screws over American workers.
Too often, Democrats intellectualize these issues, overemphasizing process and procedure, leaving Americans confused about what’s actually happening. Let’s just say it plainly: Trump hates workers. Trump screws workers. Repeat it over and over.
