Alvin Bragg Asks Justice Merchan Not To Dismiss New York Criminal Case
Bragg's letter is in contrast to proceedings elsewhere where criminal charges against Trump could be dropped in D.C. and Florida in the coming weeks
This afternoon, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a letter with Justice Merchan, urging him not to dismiss the criminal case against Donald Trump.
In the letter filed today, Bragg's team argues that the criminal case should not be dismissed, highlighting alternative options for Justice Merchan. These include delaying sentencing and allowing further litigation until after Donald Trump completes his upcoming four-year term as president.
Bragg's letter also notes that Trump's team intends to file a motion to dismiss the case entirely, citing the argument that the case cannot be timely concluded due to the immunity Trump is now likely to receive as president-elect.
While Bragg opposes any effort to dismiss the criminal prosecution, he does not object to delaying sentencing indefinitely. He cites the likelihood that Trump's team will appeal both the verdict and any decision Justice Merchan makes regarding immunity. Bragg further explains that such interlocutory appeals will likely pause the case regardless.
It is therefore likely that Justice Merchan will stay all upcoming sentencing proceedings to allow full litigation on whether the case against Trump should be dismissed entirely. Importantly, there is no precedent for dismissing the case, particularly given that a jury of Donald Trump's peers convicted him after a free and fair trial.

PLEASE - Is this not RIGHT?? Can we not have one last shred of justice/ accountability?? He has gotten away with so much-🤦🏻♀️. IF he had been properly sentenced in a timely manner perhaps we (the U.S. and the WORLD) would not be in such a dangerous place right now.💁🏻♀️
Feel like we are living in Gotham, and Trump is the Penguin.
