American Media Sanewashes Trump as Denmark Prepares Greenland for U.S. Invasion

Our allies are prepping for potentially destabilizing moves from our government

In this new ad-free report, provided exclusively to our Meidas+ Substack subscribers, MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas discusses the recent militarization of Greenland by Denmark, following bizarre posts by Donald Trump suggesting that under his administration, the U.S. would set about acquiring the arctic territory. Trump's statements prompted Denmark, a U.S. ally, to significantly boost its military defenses in Greenland in preparation for a possible U.S. invasion. That’s where we are as a country, before Trump even takes office.

Meiselas explains Denmark's response by giving a rundown of its historical experience with authoritarian aggression, referencing the fact that Danes experienced a Nazi invasion during World War II. He contrasts the cavalier behavior of Trump and his allies on U.S. territorial expansion into Greenland ⎯ along with Canada and Panama ⎯ with Denmark's serious response, reflecting their very real fears of fighting imperialist expansion from the U.S. while also dealing with the imposing threat from Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

Meiselas also slams Fox News ⎯ now really just America’s version of Russian state TV ⎯ who are treating Trump's reckless comments on Greenland as pragmatic or strategic. But it’s not just Fox; CNN also likened Trump’s potentially violent imperialist plans to the Louisiana Purchase in a stunningly tone-deaf headline last week.

Trump’s reckless behavior and the pathetic rationalization from members of the media are already having negative impacts on our relationships with our key allies. We won’t sanewash Trump or MAGA. We won’t kiss the ring. Subscribe today to support independent, pro-democracy media.
