Ben Meiselas and Molly Jong Fast Interview

Watch my conversation with with Molly Jong-Fast on Trump’s chaos, media failures, and the power of speaking plainly.

I recently sat down with Molly Jong-Fast for an interview on Fast Politics. It’s true: this moment we’re living in is as chaotic, dangerous, and disorienting as we feared it would be. Honestly, I always thought it could get this bad under Trump, but even I didn’t expect just how deep the propaganda machine would go—or how complicit so much of the media would be in normalizing it.

We warned people. We told them. But Trump and his right-wing mouthpieces promised peace in Ukraine in 24 hours, cheaper prices on Day One, affordable housing, millions of jobs—magic wand nonsense. And still, media outlets ran with that garbage like it was serious policy, while glossing over the fact that the man kicked off his campaign in Waco, called January 6 insurrectionists "patriots," and now wants Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off at the RNC like we’re in some fascist wrestling fever dream.

This isn’t normal. It’s not entertainment. It’s not politics as usual. It’s a toxic disinformation ecosystem built on rage and fear—and yes, the algorithms are rigged to feed it. I talked to Molly about how social media has become a dystopian cesspool where the most vile, violent content gets boosted while actual truth gets buried. And no one even knows how the algorithm sausage is made. That should keep us up at night.

But I’m not just here to rant—I’m here to fight. That’s why we created the MeidasTouch Network. We saw the need to cut through the noise, to speak directly to people—not in academic white papers, not in convoluted think tank jargon—but in plain, direct language: That policy is screwing you over. That billionaire doesn’t care about you. That cold pizza stunt Trump pulled? It’s a con job, and you deserve better than that.

The truth is, a lot of people don’t feel seen. They feel left behind, anxious, stressed, paycheck to paycheck, watching their kids struggle to find a job or buy a home. Trump exploits that pain with fake populism and photo ops. He hands out a cold slice of pizza and pretends he cares—while his policies gut unions, raise prices, and hand everything over to the oligarch class. And people fall for it, because Democrats too often forget to show up and fight.

That’s the part I want you to hear loud and clear: we can bring the warm pizza. We can show up—not with gimmicks, but with authenticity, with values, with a backbone. People want to be fought for. So let’s fight. Let’s call out the Musk-Trump oligarchy. Let’s stop tiptoeing and start drawing bold lines. Let’s stop debating whether we should be “center-left” or “center-right” and just ask: Are we fighting for working people or not?

There are fighters out there—leaders like Governor Beshear, Pritzker, AOC, Bernie, Shapiro, Crockett, and others. They get it. They show people they care and that they’ll stand up to the bullies. That’s what we need more of—not polished consultants telling us to play it safe, but real leaders who show up with conviction and purpose.

The stakes are too high for anything less. Let’s get loud. Let’s be bold. Let’s fight like hell—because democracy depends on it.
