If Donald Trump thought he could intimidate Canada, he just got a wake-up call. I sat down with Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus, who made it clear: Canada isn’t backing down from Trump’s latest round of threats, tariffs, and outright nonsense about “conquering” Canada. In fact, Trump’s unhinged attacks are fueling a massive grassroots boycott of American products, tourism, and businesses—hitting the U.S. economy where it hurts.
Angus didn’t mince words, calling Trump a “criminal” and a “convicted predator” whose word means absolutely nothing. And Canadians, he said, aren’t surprised. They’ve seen this rodeo before. Last week, Trump claimed Canada was a “narco-state” flooding the U.S. with fentanyl. This week, it’s steel and aluminum tariffs. Next week? Who knows? The only certainty with Trump is that he lies, he grifts, and he bullies.
But here’s the kicker: Trump’s bluster is backfiring spectacularly. Canadians are canceling trips to Florida, Arizona, and other U.S. destinations en masse. Border towns in Michigan, New York, and Washington are already seeing empty stores. Tourism-dependent states like Kentucky, Texas, and Florida are panicking over lost revenue. U.S. businesses are scrambling to reassure Canadian customers, with call centers even transferring them straight to supervisors begging them not to boycott.
And if that wasn’t bad enough for Trump, the movement is spreading beyond Canada. Angus pointed out that people across Europe are watching closely, seeing Canada’s resistance as a model for how to push back against Trump’s brand of authoritarianism.
Then there was Trump’s latest pathetic attempt to gaslight Canadians, claiming they’d be better off as the 51st U.S. state. Angus shredded that fantasy in seconds: Canadians don’t have to worry about getting shot in their classrooms, don’t go bankrupt from medical bills, and don’t tolerate grifters like Trump.
So here’s the message to Trump: Keep talking. Keep threatening. Every time you open your mouth, you just make Canadians more determined to resist. And this time, it’s not just talk—it’s billions of dollars leaving the U.S. economy and a global resistance building against your authoritarian nonsense.
Charlie Angus summed it up best: “We will never break. We will never bow down. And we will never, ever, ever kiss your ring.”
