Canadian MP Charlie Angus on Why Canada is DONE with Trump

In conversation with Canadian MP Charlie Angus, we talk tariffs, tyranny, and why Canada’s done kissing Trump’s ring.

By Ben Meiselas

It was such a pleasure to welcome Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus back on the MeidasTouch Network, and our latest conversation might be one of the most eye-opening yet. Let me tell you up front: Canada is not playing around anymore when it comes to Donald Trump.

Trump’s threats of massive tariffs against Canada and Europe are nothing short of unhinged. He’s ranting that the European Union and Canada are teaming up “to do economic harm” to the U.S.—so he’s slapping on higher tariffs in retaliation. It’s the behavior of a desperate man, lashing out because the grift is falling apart.

But here’s what Trump didn’t expect: Canada is standing tall. And as Charlie Angus told me in this interview, Canadians have had enough of being pushed around by an unstable neighbor who embraces authoritarianism, kidnaps and detains citizens at will, and threatens the very fabric of democracy.

Prime Minister Mark Carney made it official: the close partnership Canada once had with the U.S. is over. Period. And honestly, can you blame them?

Canada is already pivoting away from U.S. trade, investing in deeper ties with Europe, sourcing food from other countries, and rethinking defense contracts—because they no longer trust the U.S. as a reliable partner under Trump’s regime. Flights to the U.S. are down 70%. Canadian grocery stores have ditched American produce. And Canadian protests against Trump’s regime are growing by the day.

Let me repeat something Charlie said that should resonate with everyone watching this: “We will never, ever kiss that gangster’s ring.”

The truth is, Trump has turned the U.S. into a nation that looks less like a beacon of democracy and more like a wannabe dictatorship. When Kristi Noem is filming weird, dystopian propaganda videos in El Salvadoran prisons, and Trump is cozying up to Putin while attacking allies like Canada, it’s clear: America’s slipping into something dark—and the world is watching.

Trump is a geopolitical Ponzi schemer, running a fraud on the American people and weakening our standing in the world. But he’s not just hurting Americans. He’s also making our allies reconsider everything, from intelligence-sharing to military procurement.

The collapse is coming—and as Charlie warned, it’s going to hit Americans first. Higher prices. Job losses. Isolation. And Trump won’t be able to lie his way out of it.

To our Maple Meidas brothers and sisters: Elbows up. We see you. We stand with you. And to everyone here in the U.S.—Canada is showing us that democracy doesn’t defend itself. We have to fight for it.

Let’s go.
