Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi on the GOP’s Self-Inflicted Chaos

In an exclusive interview with Ben Meiselas, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi exposes the GOP’s dysfunction, Trump’s anti-labor agenda, and the stakes for working-class families under MAGA leadership.

The GOP’s ongoing spiral into chaos took center stage in a new interview between MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL). From ethical cover-ups to Trump’s alarming policy proposals, the interview focused on today’s Republican Party, which is more focused on serving Donald Trump’s ambitions than governing responsibly.

During the interview, Krishnamoorthi didn’t mince words about Trump’s cabinet picks, calling Matt Gaetz “seriously flawed” and unfit to lead, especially as the nation’s top law enforcement officer. “The only reason he’s being put forward is his loyalty to Donald Trump,” Krishnamoorthi said.

Krishnamoorthi also sounded the alarm on Trump’s labor policies, particularly elements of “Project 2025,” which seek to erode worker protections. One proposal would eliminate overtime pay by “averaging” hours worked over weeks—a move Krishnamoorthi called “astounding” and deeply unpopular among labor groups. This, combined with Trump-appointed judges blocking pro-worker initiatives like expanded overtime eligibility, underscores the GOP’s anti-labor priorities. “The idea of people voting against their own pay is baffling,” Meiselas added.

The conversation turned to Trump’s broader economic and policy agenda, including tariffs that could trigger another wave of inflation and plans to slash federal agencies like the Department of Education. “A lot of people don’t believe Trump would actually do these things,” Krishnamoorthi warned. “But we are about to see exactly what happens when you give power to someone this reckless.”

Krishnamoorthi outlined a roadmap for Democrats to hold MAGA accountable. Drawing on lessons from the first Trump administration, he stressed the importance of transparency and messaging that connects with working-class voters. He highlighted the sunset of Trump-era tax cuts as a key opportunity to expose GOP favoritism toward corporations and the wealthy. “We have to ask, why does Donald Trump believe corporations should pay less than middle-class families?” he posed.

The interview ended with a call to action. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., Krishnamoorthi warned against “sincere ignorance or conscientious stupidity,” urging voters to stay informed and hold the GOP accountable in future elections. Meiselas reinforced the need to amplify this message across platforms to combat media narratives that falsely equate Democratic solutions with Republican failures.
