Ben you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I have been telling everyone who will listen since you mentioned this in another substack - it is IMPERATIVE that Democrats start this immediately!

Ditto!

I e been saying this for years! Most people don’t even know about the infrastructure act or the inflation act or the chips at nobody knows about those. They just see Biden is a bumbling old man who caused inflation now Trump will come in and take credit for the stock market, he’ll take credit for every single one of Biden‘s accomplishments! So we need to be loud loud loud right now, and set the tone for who did this because you know Trump will take will take credit for it!

They need to keep it simple, stupid! And be like the Republicans and say it over and over and over again! All the four of them together show the infrastructure job the manufacturing number short constantly constantly before he’s out of office and before Trump can take credit for it!

Expand full comment

Yes. They also need to say NO Trump did not save the economy, the stock market, etc. I am surprised he hasn't said he killed Osama bin Laden. Call Trump out for each and every lie. Yes. It's exhausting but so what? Trump is already taking credit and he isn't even in the WH yet.

Expand full comment

yes it is exhausting, but listening to his ongoing never ending nauseating string of lies in more exhausting and sucks the life out of anyone not a mega goon.

💯 spot on.

Just refuting or arguing after pundits, etc. give credit to Repubs for what Dems have made happen is counterproductive!

Congresspeople should have a dedicated staff person tracking programs/projects as they are being implemented THEN schedule Dems (local, State, and Federal) to show up for rollout publicity to talk about the Dems passing the legislation. Also do interviews (on Capitol steps, at project sites, etc.) This especially important when Repubs voted against.

Keep videos on file (the events and interviews of folks who benefited, etc.) and use repeatedly and often whenever there’s news or reports on progress/results.

Let's face it, we've never had a malignant narcissist in the Office before Trump. He does nothing; gives nothing; and constantly grifts of people stupid enough to buy his crap. The situation is pathetic; the climate is pathetic. He's a bragger which is humiliating. Most real Republicans refuse to acknowledge him, and foreign leaders laugh at him behind his back, especially Putin.

That’s why I KNOW the supposed assassination attempts were staged!

Expand full comment

there **have** been MNs in the past, and it didn't go well for them. (Jackson, A. Johnson, etc). Live your values.

Expand full comment

Good idea. Then how does it get to the media that will disseminate it? One story on CBS or a footnote on NBC? Corporate media has no interest in promoting any kind of agenda that gives credit to Democrats. Hasn't done since Obama.

Expand full comment

I’m suggesting that Dems build a year-round plan and be proactive. Have staff with handling media promotion as a job description. identify where Repubs are getting their info and make interviews, podcasts, etc. happen. Get invited to places and events, especially where Repubs are going to be. Network with the local and State Dems to know what’s going on and show up.

I live in a big city, so there are opportunities for volunteering in every neighborhood. Local representatives have many initiatives for networking & planning during non-election months, from their offices & outreach locations. By the way, did you see the number of billboards that went up around the country in key areas by the DNC and individuals like Mad Dog Pac, among others? Big, bold & proactive!

Why save TV commercials just for election season? There should be media ads out there every few weeks, touting Democrat successes and hold Republicans accountable for their (upcoming) broken promises and failures.

Expand full comment

Well, to be fair, first they have to start with touting the Dem acknowledgments over and over. The republicans do it all the time even when they do nothing but take credit for what the Dems do. So, no I don't think it's counterproductive. It's a big first PR step but not counterproductive. The Dems do rollouts, they just don't get much press and then they stop "bragging" which isn't really bragging.

Expand full comment

Why? Because corporate media has told them that. Talk radio hosts tell them that, echos of trump everywhere, tell them that. Where are they going to say these things when the media is owned and controlled by conservatives that have NO interest in being truthful or forthright about the myriad accomplishments by democrats? Who is going to spread the truth? Please.

Democrats are humble, a quite nice trait. But this is now a cutthroat world. Time to adapt to the realities.

Biden should have never invited the orange slug to the people’s house after the election, and no former president should attend this farce of an inauguration of a corrupt, lying, cheating, felon wannabe dictator. In fact we should have a million person protest in Washington that day.

Exactly! A peaceful pop up protest. All patriots attend as ordinary anonymous citizens (they'll think they have a large crowd!). When Roberts or whoever stands to give the oath, all the patriots loudly break out in Woody Guthrie's song, All You Fascists Bound to Lose at the top of our lungs. Hopefully if will drown out the fascist liars on stage and create a made for replay TV moment that sustains and informs our resistance in the coming years.

Somewhere I know the Meidas Touch has baselined the accomplishments of the Biden/Harris administration and has a list of things that needed to be cleaned up and how they were left by the former Trump administration. Please post these or do an article that outlines what they are. We, the Meidas Mighty, can then spread the word far and wide every time someone tries to give Trump the credit for something he did not do. Thanks,

Expand full comment

You are absolutely right. I’ve been writing this as a response to every Substack I read. We have to brag loudly and very specifically to those people who are benefiting from what we do. And do not let Trump take credit for anything that Dems have accomplished. The next campaign starts now!

Expand full comment

Simply put, we must become masters of the big truths to counter their lies. We must be more proactive instead of reactive. We must set the narrative & make it simple. We need more leaders like Ben Wikler & Rep Jasmine Crockett leading the way!

Expand full comment

Looks like a job for a big Public relations company. Sounds to me like you recognize this need. I think Meidas would be ideal for plumping for the Democratic Party's successes. I am not being sarcastic. The party needs help with messaging. There must be hundreds of out of work PR people you could enlist. Go for it :-)

Expand full comment

I wholeheartedly agree. Mysteriously the official Dems can’t figure it out so WE need to take action. Immediately! Who will lead us in launching an effective communications campaign?

Expand full comment

I do not understand "mysteriously" as the Democratic Party's method of information. Is there something party leadership does not understand about appealing to the "masses?" There is a lot of patting on the back for our good deeds, but there is an element missing. It may have been identified. The people the party works for, the people of the US does not believe we actually do this because we believe in them and the promise of America. Many are not part of it, now living on the streets and in homeless encampments. "Forgotten and Ignored America" needs to be re-embraced by the Democratic Party. Corporate money is not where the real power is; the real power resides in the people of this country - ALL OF THEM and ALL OF US.

Expand full comment

Beautiful sentiment. Democratic party leadership knows full well about appealing to the masses. Getting the message to the masses unless by skywriting around the country, will never get to the masses if we remain in the blackout created by conservative/rightwing media.

Expand full comment

Well, we need well crafted messages, visible and direct, and persistent. A bit like all those anti war placards that went up over bridges during the Iraq war only more professional. There are ways to do this. People get paid big money to sway audiences. This is no different except we want to preserve the democracy and constitutional governance - who does this is probably going to need to change.

Expand full comment

DT's phrase "Make America Great Again" has morphed into the name of his version of the Republican party. The Dems need a slogan such as "Trump broke it and we fixed it!"

Expand full comment

Democrats don't seem to have any spine, moxy, or pride. No, they have abandoned most of their most loyal constituents.

Expand full comment

How can you say that when they get the job done? Americans are so focused on. the negative, they can't see the positive when it is handed to them. If you need "In Your Face" messaging, so be it. But the limited attention span of the American public militates against discourse. Billboards might work. "The Affordable Care Act works for you thanks to the Democratic Party - Pass it on!" There! First Billboard message, gratis :-) Go get 'em tiger.

Expand full comment

Wasn't Donny "in your face" MORE? Yeah he IS,will be. Who believes him? Those that voted him back in. You tell me why.

Expand full comment

Well, that is a difficult question, since things like medical care show up in everyday life. It isn't magic. Somebody put it in place and makes it work. If Americans cannot see that, then perhaps we ought to let Trump take it away because if you do not appreciate what you have, you really don't need it, do you? Who needs healthcare? After all you are going to die anyway. Why wait?

It is not that Americans' aren't smart, we aren't grateful for the hard work people in government do for us. And we are about to lose it.

Expand full comment

I don't know if you were serious but some people have to learn the hard way. These people are so intent on blaming the Dems for everything and thinking Trump is their savior that perhaps it's time to let them see the reality. Because they forgot what it was like last time and this time is going to be a lot worse

Expand full comment

Those that voted him back in like Trump. They LIKE what he is about. Oh they say it's the economy, the price of eggs, whatever. Funny, when their life was on the line during Covid, then SOME of them voted for Biden or stayed home. The key is to get OUR base to care enough to vote. JMO

Expand full comment

They didn't vote because the Democrats weren't getting their message across and they started to believe the maga lies. Not enough to vote for trump but enough not to vote for Harris. Their lack of hammering home the truth - what they accomplished and what the Republicans didn't accomplish was one of the things responsible for their loss.

Expand full comment

Agree. A lot of people like a bandwagon. They are either getting on one, getting off one or staying on one. The Democrats need to stop chasing after MSM approval and the Trump voter that for some reason only seems to hang out in diners.

Expand full comment

They seem over the past 29 yrs. to spend more time catering to their corporate donors, modifying positions they held since FDR. Bill Clinton repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, and who benefited? Big banks and more. I am 71, and I lived in this country since birth. I watched my Democratic party devolve into a band of corporate types and a millionaires' club. You, sir, may not agree but don't chastise others who witnessed it. I happen to love my country. Do you? Good evening, goodnight, and good luck.

For 350 plus million to learn the hard way is like a very sad way to learn a lesson. "Stupid is as stupid does" Pretty harsh. Like being under bombardment in Ukraine and then saying "There, how do you like that?" But then, this is not the first time this country has been at odds with itself. We might survive. In the history of nations that is not always guaranteed. How badly do we want a functioning democracy and society? A new constitution?

Expand full comment

Enough has changed in the world, a new constitution might be a good idea. We have the right if we choose to take it. And we would have to take it - only 10 percent of the original colonists thought separation from England was a good idea. We did it once before. History does repeat itself in positive ways as well.

That’s my number one complaint of the Democratic Party…they get wonderful things done then move on to the next priority without EVER letting the people know it after the initial announcement. They need to repeat their successes again and again. It seems the people need to hear all the things our party has done for them repeatedly for it to actually sink in…so DO IT!

This is exactly what Trump does. That conman has been campaigning for 10 years. He campaigns in his sleep, started TruthSocial to spread his lies and hamstrung Congress. To some people, it’s like he never left the White House. It helped and it worked. Sometimes all people need to hear is the same thing over and over again, be in your face and campaign against the other party for 4 years. Trump had the Joe Rogans of the world, Fox News, OANN, Newsmax and too many other HUGE echo chambers to count. Trump was selling merchandise, had a shadow government at Mar-a-Lago, stoled/disseminated classified documents, refused to give them back and met with diplomats, adversaries (even Orban) and called Putin when he was NOT even president. To hell with laws, policies and norms. He was and continues to be unapologetically SHAMELESS. He never stopped asking for campaign money. Some people just voted for him because of name recognition. Democrats - LEARN THE LESSON NOW.

Accept for one truth - the more that the Meidas Mighty roar, the more the corporate media must pay attention and respond or get run over by the Meidas train. It's already happening. Corporate Media is whining and saying Meidas Touch in their broadcasts. It's being said on X and other social media. Attention, whether good or bad on their platforms will draw attention to Meidas Touch and more people will ask themselves "Who is this Meidas Touch of whom you speak?" and they will come check it out. Some will stay, some will go, but many will take a look out of pure feline curiosity. Roar and roar loud and often.

True but Democrats rely on MSM and are always starting with the MSM narrative. They start on the defensive. The Dems needed and need to keep shouting their achievements over and over and constantly point out the Trump destruction and lies. Who cares if the MSM or the Trump voters get offended? I could not agree with you more! Here’s a story—-when canvassing for Harris, I came upon a young (probably early 20’s) African American woman who told me she was voting for Trump. When asked “Why?” she said, “Because he sent me money.” If you recall, he signed the relief checks that got sent out under his watch during the pandemic. Dems did not sign the checks! Metaphorically speaking, we need to SIGN THE CHECKS, to take credit over and over for what we do to make life better for everyone!
