Dems Secret Weapon in FL - Marijuana Dispensaries
They are working hard to get people to the polls
The Democratic Party has a secret weapon working overtime in Florida to register new voters and get them to the polls - marijuana dispensary companies who want Amendment 3 to pass legalizing weed in Florida.
Florida currently allows medical marijuana, and it has by far the most number of people with medical marijuana cards of any other state. At the close of 2023, a staggering 831,775 Floridians had cards - nearly 4% of the population of the state. The next closest state is Oklahoma with 368,679.
The process to obtain a medical marijuana card is burdensome and expensive in Florida. You have to pay annual fees to the state. You have to make an appointment and pay a doctor every year. Then you have to pay premium prices from dispensaries, whose licenses are very limited and difficult to obtain. If you don't have a valid driver's license, or if your license has an incorrect address on it, you will be rejected.
The marijuana dispensary companies know that if Amendment 3 passes, their customer base will explode as people will no longer have to jump through hoops and pay exorbitant fees before they can buy their products. So they are pumping out emails and texts to their huge customer bases encouraging them to register to vote and show up at the polls. Florida's largest company with the largest customer base - Trulieve - has been sending out these emails to their customers:
The reason why Amendment 3 and Amendment 4 (abortion) have been seen by some experts as putting Florida in play for Democrats for the first time in years is because both are expected to turn out people who don't care much about politics and rarely if ever vote. But they will show up to vote for these specific issues that they care about and which impact their lives. Given the nature of the Amendments, which Ron Desantis and most Republicans oppose - Dems are counting on these new voters to also vote for their candidates while they are filling out their ballots.
Which is good news for Debbie Mucarsel-Powell against Rick Scott.
And Kamala Harris against Trump.
I live in Florida and the medical marijuana prescription is only good for 6 months so you have to pay their doctors the fee which I think is $350 or above twice a year in order to get a prescription. I am 67 and want pot to be legalized in Florida. I suffer from chronic low back pain and cannot afford the prescription for pot. I do think it will also allow people to remove small pot possession charges from their criminal record. People spent time in jail for small amounts of pot. We have pot and women's health rights on the ballot here. I think the Democrats voting will turn the State blue again. Now if DeSantis was not the Governor. We have to wait until 2026 for when he is termed out. We have to elect a democratic Governor next time so they can undue all DeSantis' evil laws he made. Book banning, removing climate change from all state records. Like that makes it go away. lol He calls it freedom when he takes all our rights away from us. I am woke and wish more people would be. Maybe then we can get great teachers to come back and teach here since so many left with all his rules. VOTE BLUE like your life depends on it, because it does. I love Meidas Touch!
Those "pothead" Dems...Aren't they great!! ;)
(smart, too)...
