I sat down with Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus again yesterday, and let me tell you, the frustration from our neighbors to the north is real—and justified. Donald Trump is once again playing his petty, reckless games, again threatening tariffs on Canada. But what he doesn’t seem to grasp is that Canadians aren’t just rolling over. In fact, they’re gearing up for a fight.
Charlie didn’t hold back. He painted a picture of a Canada that’s not just irritated but deeply enraged by Trump’s endless tantrums and his administration’s blatant disregard for international partnerships. From Trump’s disgraceful treatment of President Zelenskyy—humiliating a war hero while cozying up to Russian propagandists—to his lunatic trade policies, Canadians have had enough. And when comedian Mike Myers (who is from Canada) went on SNL and threw up the iconic “elbows up” gesture—signaling that Canadians were ready to play rough—it sent a clear message: the gloves are off.
Trump’s tariffs, if enacted, won’t just hurt Canada. They’ll devastate American industries too—particularly the auto sector. As Charlie put it, within days of these tariffs going into effect, plants in Toledo, Lansing, and Bowling Green will start shutting down. Trump, ever the wannabe strongman, is selling out American workers, wrecking our economy, and pushing away one of our closest allies—all to keep up his ridiculous con of looking like a "winner."
But here’s the reality: Trump’s no winner. He’s a grifter, a fraud, and, as Charlie put it, a “cheap hood” who bends over backward for Putin. Meanwhile, he’s isolating America on the world stage. Canadians, who are historically measured and diplomatic, are done being polite. They’re cutting off American products, skipping vacations in the U.S., and standing shoulder to shoulder in opposition.
Charlie summed it up best: Trump thought he could bully Canada. Instead, he’s united them like never before. And for every American out there who despises Trump’s destruction of our country, know this—there are more of us than them. We stand with Canada, and we stand against Trump’s corruption.
Elbows up.
