I had the pleasure of sitting down with Congressman Tom Suozzi today, and let me tell you—this representative gets it. Not only is he fighting for his constituents in New York’s Third Congressional District (which, by the way, is where I grew up), but he’s also calling out the sheer recklessness of the MAGA Republican budget plan. You know, the one that slashes Medicaid by $880 billion while handing out tax cuts to billionaires? The one that even Republican Congressman Thomas Massie admitted will add hundreds of billions to the deficit—this year alone.
Congressman Suozzi didn’t mince words: “It’s completely irresponsible.” And he’s right. Republicans love to posture about fiscal responsibility, but when it comes down to it, they’re not cutting government waste—they’re gutting programs that millions of Americans rely on while padding the pockets of their donors. If it wasn’t so infuriating, it would almost be funny watching them try to spin this.
And speaking of reckless billionaires, we also dove into the disturbing reality of Elon Musk’s unchecked power over sensitive government data. Suozzi nailed it when he pointed out that the tech bros who suddenly find themselves with access to Americans’ tax records, Social Security info, and medical history aren’t exactly security-cleared professionals. They’re hackers, gamers—kids with no oversight with nicknames like “Big Balls,” playing with the livelihoods of everyday people. The fact that Musk thinks he can just waltz in, take over critical government functions, and toss federal employees aside like trash? That’s not just irresponsible, it’s dangerous. And once again, Republicans are letting him get away with it.
Of course, no conversation about Republican dereliction of duty would be complete without addressing Trump’s latest disgrace on the world stage—this time, his administration siding with Russia and North Korea at the United Nations. Yeah, you read that right. As the world marked the third anniversary of Putin’s brutal, unlawful invasion of Ukraine, Trump chose to align the United States with dictators and war criminals.
Suozzi was as fired up about this as I was: “I will never find common ground on this. I am so pissed off.” And who wouldn’t be? Trump is literally handing Putin a free pass, sending a message to our allies that they’re on their own, and making it clear that a second Trump presidency would be an absolute catastrophe for democracy worldwide.
Look, we can’t sit back and let this happen. That’s why I’m glad to see fighters like Congressman Suozzi taking on all the chaos head on. Suozzi clearly knows what’s at stake, and so do we.
