Written by Ben Meiselas

Alleged child sex trafficker Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration as Donald Trump’s pick for Attorney General. Gaetz had previously resigned from Congress after Trump named him for the role.

Republicans in Congress blocked the official release of an ethics report detailing Gaetz’s alleged sex trafficking and drug use. However, portions of the report were leaked to the public, including evidence of Gaetz’s Venmo payments to girls and sex workers he allegedly trafficked.

Despite this, earlier today, Trump’s spokesperson claimed that Republican Senators were warned they would immediately face primary challenges—funded by Elon Musk—if they did not support Gaetz for Attorney General. This pressure campaign clearly failed, and Gaetz announced his withdrawal.

Trump’s attempt to bully Senators from his own party has backfired, marking a major embarrassment for him.
