So we've seen protests like that outside of MAGA Republican-led town halls. We've seen the protests growing across the country each week getting bigger. We've seen protests outside of Tesla, for example, as Elon Musk, Doge, and Trump take a wrecking ball to our economy, to Social Security, to Medicaid, to our federal government.
0:35
Just take a look at this one. This is the Tesla protest in Boston. I'll show you a quick clip of it. the protest spirit has been growing week by week and today i'm sure you've all heard of it it's the hands-off protest it will be in washington dc but it will be

'HANDS OFF': Protests ERUPT Today Across America

My conversation with MoveOn’s Rahna Epting on today's grassroots uprising against Trump, Musk, and the MAGA wrecking crew.

By Ben Meiselas

You can feel it in the streets. You can hear it in the chants: DO YOUR JOB! DO YOUR JOB!

I sat down with Rahna Epting, Executive Director of MoveOn, to talk about a movement that’s reaching a boiling point. Across the country, Americans are standing up and saying enough is enough. From the Boston Tesla protests to today’s national “Hands Off” day of action, this isn't just opposition—it’s an uprising.

Rahna and I talked about how over 1,300 protests are taking place today in all 50 states. This isn’t some top-down operation—it’s grassroots power. Everyday Americans organizing to protect Social Security, Medicare, reproductive freedom, workers’ rights, and the very foundation of our democracy. And let’s be clear: it’s not just Trump anymore. It’s all of his enablers. It’s Elon Musk. It’s J.D. Vance. It’s the billionaire cronies trying to bulldoze our freedoms while cashing in.

These protests are personal. Trump crashed the stock market, bragged about it, then jetted off to his Saudi-funded golf league. Regular Americans? We’re left holding the bag while they try to shred the social safety net and install an authoritarian regime.

Rahna put it best: “We are not afraid. We are stronger in numbers. We're not going anywhere.” And she’s right. Whether you’re heading to a protest today or getting ready for the next wave of actions during the August congressional recess, this is the beginning of what I’m calling the Summer of Democracy.

So if you’re fired up and ready to take action, head to handsoff2025.com and find an event near you. Trust me, there probably is one. You’re not alone in this.

We’ll keep covering it all at MeidasTouch. We’re not waiting for the corporate media to catch up—we are the media now.

Supporting virtually from Scotland 💪💪💪💪❤️

Expand full comment

I'm Scottish too. We should do our own protests to get Trumps poxy golf courses out of our beautiful country because these courses are a stain on Scotland

Expand full comment

I was on a day tour in Scotland 2 years ago. The small bus was full of international people. The tour bus driver/guide says, "Hey I'll take a detour and drive you past Trump's Golf Course"

NOT ONE person on the bus was happy about it, and we were the only Americans on the tour, when we drove by the golf course with the Big Huge GOLD TRUMP letters on it, I slid open the bus window and gave it the finger. Everyone on the bus smiled and clapped. I am pretty sure they were quiet before hand as they knew we were American, but after I gave the finger they all clapped.

I absolutely love Scotland the country of my maternal ancestors. I've visited there twice and loved every minute of it. The Isle of Skye was a side trip and so gorgeous. I have a 29 year old granddaughter who has been to 28 countries and she insists Scotland is still her favorite.

And Joyce Vance, Jay Kuo, Heidi Cuda and her guys amongst many other many brilliant minds. 💪‼️💪🕊️❤️

And Heather Cox Richardson! i’ve learned more American history from her than I ever did when I was in school in the 1960s! And I love Scotland as well! I wish I could move there, but I’m too old now and I can’t offer anything as I am retired. I did a bus tour, the country roads of Scotlandseven years ago and I absolutely adored it.

Yeah, that’s very true but we’d need an electrician with us to disable the security cameras otherwise we’d end up in court like the folks who went to muck up the greens at Turnbury /Turnberry(?) recently.

I’m impressed that finally there’s some ACTUAL ACTION happening in America, because for too long it appeared that it was flying over everyone else’s heads! Here at home we have been yelling into the Atlantic!! “DO SOMETHING, don’t take it SO passively.”

The 🍊and Elongated have been ripping the piss out of the citizens of USA Classic mobster behaviour.

Challenge them ALL.

Corporate media has not been covering protests and rallies.

It’s also true that we can learn from our European brothers and sisters! Thank you. 😘

Expand full comment

Yes I am aware that your main stream media hasn’t been covering stuff, but, Brian Taylor Cohen and Meidas have kept us informed. They need championing, promoting in America!

I hope you don’t feel like I’ve criticised you personally because I didn’t mean to, especially if you have been protesting against the shitshow that’s nationwide.

We send you a massive supportive hug from the Highlands 🥰

Expand full comment

Not at all. I thank you for your support and for caring about us and wanted to reassure you that we are protesting. It’s terrifying and infuriating that pillars we have come to rely on (corporate media, “elite” law firms and universities, our congress) have capitulated and left us to figure it out on our own. (One person’s view, of course.)

I meant it when I wrote that we have much to learn from those of you across the pond. We see the way you turn out in massive numbers and wonder why it doesn’t yet look that way over here.

Side note. Many years ago I was fortunate to participate in a short between semesters literature course at Stirling University and absolutely loved the course and your beautiful country. Even dipped my toes, shoes and all, in the North Sea… in January… to take home with me a bit of Scotland.

Thank you for caring and not giving up on us. ✨💙💫

I went to a protest in Bangor, Maine this noon. On my way to the riverbank where it was being held (700+ at the beginning and more were coming all the time) I met a woman climbing back up to the parking lot. She greeted me and shared that her brother is a MAGA and it's tearing the whole family apart. We both love the MeidasTouch brothers, Aaron Parnas and Heather Cox Richardson. We had a lovely chat and it was so neat to connect with a total stranger. Connecting is how we do this! One person at a time!

Jane, that means so much! Thank you! 😻 I have very strong Scottish ancestry and spent close to six weeks in your lovely country (my spiritual home) for an International Studies trip many, many years ago. I so thoroughly acclimated during the time I was there (my Celtic blood runs very deep and true) that I went into a pretty dramatic reverse culture shock upon my return to the U.S. I quite seriously considered emigrating and finally realized the lack of daylight in the winter was a dealbreaker so stayed here. Ha, ha now I’m second guessing that choice! Thank you for your support!! 💙💕💙

Expand full comment

Deb a wee Secret…I’ve only been here half a year but I love & live with a native😂 I feel comfortable here in the land of wide skies and clean water, cannot claim direct ancestors at all, but, it’s so easy to assimilate. I too worried about lack of light over the winter but actually it was far shorter than I’d expected and I loved a mini hibernation period 😊then noticing each day getting more light by the day. Both of us are so disgusted with the 🍊and his motley crew of not so secret brownshirts , the VP isn’t a viable option given his paymaster Thiel’s position. The whole situation is gruesome. I am so sorry that you are experiencing this and a bit more than some regret about not staying here. Reconsider perhaps? 🥰

I did see coverage on both CNN and MSNBC today. On MSNBC there was coverage of various cities across the country and the same on CNN. Saw large crowds at all the places that were aired. About time coverage happened but would love to see more.

Don’t remember which outlet but anchor and guest discussed whether these protests would have impact on Trump. Thought was Trump wouldn’t care but members of Congress would because their constituents would let them know that their votes would matter at the ballot box. So Congressional members serve the voters and the voters are not happy. Let’s hope the Republicans begin to understand that - Trump cares not about you but voters are watching!

My 77 yr old sister just called me bc she just came back from a rally in haverhill ma. [ her 1st rally ever] my sister is a retired president school teacher and she and her husband were foster parents for years. She knows 1st hand about sacrificing everything to save 1 kid at a time. When her foster kids went back to their parents [ against her better judgment] she sent them w/ 4 bags of clothes for each season, a # to call / what to say and who to call if their biological parents were unsafe. All these cuts r personal to her bc even when things r good teachers r last and under paid. Foster parents work their butts off to give kids a fighting chance. Let's stand up for these kids. My sister was in a grocery store and someone yelled out her name. It was a grown foster kid w/ his wife & child. He told her his life is good & working bc of her. Wow

Extremely important analysis on the German news channel N-TV:

What if there are never more elections in the USA?

link: https://www.n-tv.de/politik/politik_kommentare/Und-wenn-Trump-einfach-nicht-mehr-waehlen-laesst-article25681972.html

Translation with google translater: (Please expand the comment at the bottom. The last third of the article is disturbing and clear...it all makes sense...)

--------Article ----------

The problem could be bigger

What if Trump simply stops allowing people to vote?

US President Trump's course contradicts all experience and expert opinions. But what if it's just part of a completely different plan? Then it would suddenly make a lot of sense. Because he wouldn't have to fear the anger of cheated voters anymore.

Donald Trump's tariff war is absurd and even self-destructive in every respect. In every respect except one. But if that turns out to be true, it would be an even bigger problem.

The US President actually seems to believe that he can protect domestic industry from foreign competition with tariffs and make imports so expensive that foreign producers will return to production in the US. It would be the first time something like this has worked across the board. All serious experts give it the thumbs down.

Some US union bosses are applauding nonetheless. They hope for a return to their former greatness for their industries, for example, in the steel industry. They don't mourn free trade; they have always viewed it as a threat and the reason for decline.

And it may indeed be the case that free trade put pressure on certain industries and their home regions because production moved away for cost reasons. The workers were initially left unemployed and then saw the products they once manufactured themselves enter their country unhindered by tariffs.

Why should a company invest in the USA?

But this is evolutionary structural change and calls for a government that supports and promotes those affected. The return of tariffs is not the answer. Trump's tariffs will drive up prices for everyone. People will become poorer, they will (be able to) buy less. Only if they absolutely have to will they accept the higher prices that come with the tariffs – or with production in America, if it leads to relocation. However, why should a company invest in a US location if it can't count on higher local demand, while other advantages are wiped out by the tariffs and counter-tariffs?

Donald Trump will hardly find a scapegoat for this. He can throw smokescreens, play on secondary theaters of war, or simply "flood the zone with shit." Will it deter those affected from expressing their displeasure at the ballot box? Not in the long run, at least not the swing voters who voted for Trump last time. In short: Economically and politically, what Donald Trump is doing right now makes absolutely no sense. In all likelihood, he's not strengthening America, not the Americans, not his billionaire friends, not even himself – and the next election will likely bring the payback. That's the common, albeit rather perplexed, interpretation of what's going on.

But what happens when one questions the most obvious of all premises: that there will ever be free and fair elections in the USA again? Elections in which anyone could express their displeasure with Trump? What if part of the plan is to cancel upcoming elections until further notice under one pretext or another – meaning Donald Trump no longer has to consider the voters?

Then everything he does suddenly makes a lot more sense. And the planned habituation to a state that is remote from democracy and even democratically non-democratic is already underway.

- It is no coincidence that Trump has so far ruled almost exclusively by presidential decree, and both houses of parliament are not consulted, decide nothing, and have no say.

- It is no coincidence that Trump bases large parts of his decrees on formal legal grounds, declaring thematic or regional emergencies or states of emergency, including those concerning tariffs. According to the Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt, the sovereign is always the one who can declare or end a state of emergency. And the sovereign does not need legitimacy, not even through elections: The sovereign is legitimate in and of itself. In a democracy, it is therefore solely the (voting) people who have the power to do so.

- It is no coincidence that Trump wants to undermine the separation of powers with his campaigns against critical media and the judiciary. It is not about individual criticism, but about the authorities and institutions. In a state of emergency, there is no separation of powers.

- And finally: Donald Trump sees himself as politically invulnerable. He once said he could shoot someone in the street and still be elected. He can afford anything, including suspending elections? He has already hinted at further terms in office. If he encounters real resistance in the foreseeable future, he will either back down or escalate.

And escalation could mean starting a war on the borders of the United States, which could allow him to declare elections impossible or illegal until further notice. Of course, that would be a fabricated war, a fabricated reason.

But Donald Trump also invented the reasons for his tariff war. For example, he accused Canada of flooding the US with vast quantities of fentanyl. In fact, that's a blatant lie. Regardless. Many kings need a war to remain king for as long as possible.

While, there are protests.....is this true? ....

and a huge concern for democracy:

We know this post is long, but it’s important to read to understand what’s going on. A lot of people are asking, “Why is Trump just out golfing while things are falling apart?” It’s simple: the emergency isn’t something he’s reacting to — it’s something he’s building.

Trump recently declared a national economic emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) — granting himself sweeping authority over international trade by labeling foreign economic practices an “unusual and extraordinary threat.”

But here’s the real play: by declaring a national emergency, Trump didn’t just respond to a crisis — he created one. And in doing so, he unlocked access to over 120 statutory powers scattered throughout federal law. Many of these powers have nothing to do with trade — and everything to do with expanding presidential authority inside the U.S.

What This Move Enables: Expanded Domestic Powers

1. Control of Domestic Communications

- 47 U.S.C. §606(c): Allows the president to take control of, shut down, or regulate wire and radio communications — including the internet, social media platforms, broadcast networks, and telecom infrastructure — in the name of national defense. Originally intended for wartime, this Cold War-era law remains on the books.

2. Asset Freezing and Financial Surveillance

- Under IEEPA and related laws, the president can freeze the assets and bank accounts of individuals or organizations accused of aiding foreign threats. These powers are vague and can be stretched to include domestic political groups, journalists, or activists — especially if they’re perceived as having foreign ties or influence.

3. Domestic Military Deployment

- Under the Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C. §§ 251–255), the president can deploy active-duty U.S. military to enforce laws or suppress civil unrest within the country. In certain scenarios, this can be done without state governor consent — especially if the president claims state authorities are failing to uphold federal law.

4. Emergency Detention Powers (Non-Citizens)

- The Alien Enemies Act (50 U.S.C. §21) — a law dating back to 1798 — allows the president to detain or restrict the movement of non-citizens from nations deemed hostile. The criteria for “hostile” can be broad and undefined during a declared emergency.

5. Control of Energy and Transportation

- Under laws like 42 U.S.C. §6272 and others, the president can redirect or restrict domestic fuel production, electricity usage, or energy transportation. Additionally, 49 U.S.C. §40106(b) allows the president to limit, reroute, or suspend civil aviation, giving the executive branch near-total control over U.S. airspace in a crisis.

6. Suspension of Labor Regulations

- During a declared emergency, the president can waive federal labor regulations and override contract protections. This includes removing limits on hours, wages, and workplace safety for federal contractors and any industries deemed vital to national security.

7. National Security Letters & Warrantless Surveillance

- Emergency declarations expand the reach and use of National Security Letters (NSLs) — tools that let federal agencies demand financial, telecom, and internet records without a warrant. These also come with gag orders, preventing the recipient (e.g., Google or a bank) from disclosing that they’re under surveillance.

Why it Matters?

Even when legal domestic powers are limited, a national emergency lets the president:

- Frame the issue as a national security crisis, justifying aggressive action

- Bypass Congress and the courts by acting unilaterally

- Sway public opinion using fear, urgency, and patriotic rhetoric

Bottom Line

IEEPA is focused on foreign threats — but once the emergency is declared, the president taps into a hidden arsenal of domestic control powers. What began as a trade issue could quickly shift into civil liberties restrictions, mass surveillance, or even crackdowns under the legal shield of an “emergency.”

This isn’t just about tariffs. It’s about redefining the boundaries of executive power. Imagine if this economic crisis keeps getting worse — the amount of power he will gain.

Too many people want to treat the Nazi coup as "business as usual." This has to stop. This is not normal, not one party arguing with another. It is The People vs. a fascist dictator and his gaggle of enablers. The last time things went this far it ended in a massive trial in Nuremberg Germany and the hangman's noose. We must make it clear to these traitors that this is what is coming for them. We need to get ourselves under the auspices of the World Court. Right now, even though we helped start it, we exempted ourselves from it's jurisdiction. Time to end that. No more "politics as usual." Death threats to progressive congresspeople and judges and their families should be treated as war crimes. We ARE at war now. We need a war leader. This is the road to freedom and justice. Oh and wars CAN be fought without bullets.

Protest are fine; but the only way to rid ourselves of these rich, white, privileged clowns is to do it at the polls. Come 2026 the mid-terms, is the starting point of any agenda to rid ourselves from this CANCER called maga, doge or project 2025. I think by now we all know this is the fastest and most deadliest form of the cancer that is killing our Nation. During the, lull until the mid-term we MUST prepare ourselves and our vote, because many of us don’t know that maga’s have changed the narrative on how to register to vote, so that many are taken out of the system; or made impossible to vote. During this lull, make sure you are properly registered and able to vote; don’t wait, there is plenty to time to check or register, before the mit-terms, in most cases all it takes is a phone call or brief amount of time on the internet. We can see by the State Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin and N Carolina that they have eliminated 65,000 votes and made it very difficult for voters to cast their ballots. Please take the time to assure that you are registered properly and that you are able to cast your ballots, before 2026, or you may lose the opportunity to correct the the tragedy that has been inflicted upon our nation.

I think it’s critically important to understand that these massive tariffs, and even the hands off protest are taking awareness away of the Republicans trying to push their budget through today while we are distracted. Which has always been their game plan.

Of course, it is important to peacefully protest and be aware of the financial crisis but we can’t lose sight of the main reason this country is in chaos which is this tax cut for the Uber wealthy.

Please share this. Thank you.

Don't forget the part JD Vance plays in the destruction of our country. In an interview with Joe Rogan, he outlines a plan to detroy our government, to fire all gov employees, to destroy our systems and to build an totalitarian government. He is a snake waiting his turn to control us all.

The current administration has bombarded the American people with drastic changes in the last 2 months. For many it's overwhelming. It's great to see the people protest.

Us too in Walnut Creek, CA! It was joyful, peaceful, even those trapped in traffic from March were supportive! Our Congressman Mark DeSaulnier spoke, we are so fortunate in CA! We must campaign for other states, letters, calls (I do NOT care if they are from another state, I am a constituent!)

Love your content and support but ... what evidence can you cite that proves Trump, or any of his collaborators, are "in terror" over Hands-Off protests across the country? Would love to believe this is happening.
