This independent news is exactly what the American people need! Thank you to you and your brothers for doing this while also being in the line of fire! It’s just So important to get the actual truth out there especially as the corporate media is bowing down, the latest is The Washington Post! Jeff Bezos is such a disappointment! Thank you, Thank you!!!!

At least it's Bezos -- as bad as that is, and NOT the ultra-evil, heinous Rupert Murdoch who single-handedly with his ownership of Fox among other things, got DT elected in 2016. His entire family is fighting over future inheritance of the old geezer's massive estate. Funny and tragic how great wealth affects people. One of my brothers-in-law "converted" my sister to be a Trumper and "forced" her to watch Tucker Carlson on Fox News nightly. My bro-in-law was a greedy but rich Repub. bec. of his own love of money and resentment and hatred of taxation. WTF? You live in a country that provides services to you (and by the way gave you great Social Security and Medicare benefits, and great freeways, national parks, etc.) and you think that all should pay for itself magically? At any rate, I'll be a true BLUE liberal and progressive and Democrat until I leave this planet. The Republicans lost all credibility when they voted Nixon into office and he pulled the criminal stunts that nearly impeached him but he chose to resign (at the urging of his fellow Repubs, who had way more spine and ethics than current day Repubs). It's been all downhill from there with that party and it's transmogrified (great word but the only one that is apt) over the years into MAGA. Unlike many others I see nothing positive in Reagan's presidency, with the POSSIBLE exception of his "Tear down the wall Mr. Gorbachev" comment regarding the wall that separated East and West Berlin. He was still a monster in my opinion and even though he uttered platitudes and was in some eyes, handsome and movie star handsome, he was beholden to big money interests who put him forward as their puppet. And then we got Gingrich and the Heritage Foundation and ultra-right wing judges, etc. It's all been a downhill slide into ultra-conservatism, despite the world moving forward and the population changing here in the U.S. and needs changing too. Now we see the ultimate manifestation of the Repub Party: MAGA president who is in the hip pocket of an ex-KGB operative who wants to see the Russian Empire expand and has no qualms about invading other countries. Pathetic little man. But President Zelenskyy is a great man and he and the Ukrainians have persevered and Putin is losing. Sorry for this absurdly long post.

A very well written and well thought out comment. So glad you called out Reagan and Gingrich. Could have put Palin in there as well. Although I didn't agree with most of his policies, I had a soft spot for John McCain until he(?) chose Palin as VP. There were Repub women he could have chosen that would have been so much better. But then, maybe he would have been elected . . . [? about who really chose Palin, just as I question who really chose Walz, a fatal mistake for Harris.]

Expand full comment

Tim Walz is one of the most refreshing candidates so I am sad that you think that choice was a mistake.

Expand full comment

Hmm. I thought Walz was a great choice. In my opinion, there is nothing VP Harris could have done that would have changed the outcome - too many forces working against Biden and then Harris. JMO

Expand full comment

Refreshing, yes, I agree! But a good political choice? No.

Expand full comment

Walz was the greatest VP candidate ever. What’s not to like about an honest, sincere, intelligent, caring , humble man that makes sure students don’t go hungry, accepts & doesn’t judge people different than himself (including you!). He is the finest person I’ve never met. Hope I can one day.

Expand full comment

Agree completely!

Expand full comment

Walz may possess most of those characteristics you list. Honest, though, he is not. He lied about stuff. And no protestations of, "Well, Trump lies more." Yes, Trump does. That doesn't mean Walz didn't lie. So possibly mostly honest, but not completely honest. And humble -- don't know about that. If you're humble, why do you need to lie?

Walz may indeed be a fine individual. Doesn't mean he was the best choice for VP. You disagree with me -- that's OK.

Expand full comment

You’re right, it is ok to disagree. I’m not aware that Walz lied. No need to compare, the contrast is obvious. I do apologize for my defensive tone. I don’t want to be hateful or antagonistic, there’s way too much of that going around. We will never achieve unity if we can’t be kind when we agree to disagree. Friends?

Expand full comment

I completely agree with you that there's way too much antagonism and hatefulness going around when people should be trying to better understand each other. Friends, no. I don't know you, don't know what kind of person you are, don't know where you stand on issues that are important to me. Friendly, sure.

In my opinion Reagan was the second worst president with his trickle down lie. In the 1980’s I decided never trust Rs because they all lie.

The way Reagan is glorified, even by some on the left, always baffles me.

WaPo is daily losing any sense of credibility. And readership. For me, it's now if only for a laugh.

Though the Washington Post is my "hometown paper", I am seriously considering unsubscribing, especially after the editorial shift just dictated by Bezos. What a terrible shame this has happened to a once great newspaper.

I either subscribed or read (at the library sometimes years ago) to the Wa Po for well over 50 years and I cancelled my subscription and will not click on any stories that show up on Yahoo that has the WaPo as a source. Very sad day for me when I cancelled sort of like a part of me was, well, gone. But it had to be done. I hope you udo the same. Their reporting is not to be trusted, so why support them?

I love independent news from the time a prof suggested I take a journalism class and embrace truth in journalism. I wish we had more of it.I think we need an independent Congress too; not hampered by the letter in front of their name.

The first thing that comes to my mind, after reading your note this morning, is that there's not a GD thing wrong with being woke. The demonization of such a beautiful word is done by insecure sickos. I'm woke. I have love of my fellow man and compassion for the needy. What the hell is wrong with that for God's sake. Go Meidas Mighty!

Expand full comment

Woke to me means awake. Also don't see how that's bad. They are the ones ,not awake. Brainwashed zombies .

Expand full comment

"Woke" is one of those simple buzz words that the Reds have latched onto to make it easier to hate people. "Elites" is another. The Reds supposedly hate "elites," but who epitomizes being an elite more than Trump, Musk, Bezos . . .

Expand full comment

"Elites" came up again yesterday & I realized it's intellectual "elites" they are threatened by, not the entitled predators. So, they hate people thinking & caring. But, too, anyone that looks different or believes differently...so everyone, when it comes down to it, all because they hate themselves. They make up these vague boogeymen like "the deep state" to avoid facing they have nothing to respect in themselves

Expand full comment

Here is one take on "woke" that is aimed at Evangelicals. (I am paraphrasing here.). YOu told me to follow the Beatitudes, and when I did you told me I was woke.

MAGA has made "Woke" a dirty word! We need to turn that around...

"Senior Republicans in Congress have a surefire plan to avoid angry town halls: Stop doing them already.

That’s the message being conveyed on Capitol Hill this week, after a handful of Republicans — in ruby-red districts from Georgia to Oregon — were booed, mocked, and jeered at local town halls last week." (Raw Story)

Expand full comment

They're getting the message that their life and limb(s) could be in danger if they keep holding the town halls. Smart to pull back and opt for video--but there's nothing that can save them from the decision they've made to affiliate with Trump.

There is no redemption for them. They can never wash the stink off. And anyone who thinks their resume will be enhanced for being a part of this evil empire is seriously fooling themselves.

When the Trump train crashes I doubt many of his cult will find open arms among the family and friends they've deserted for love of the orange monster. In fact, I think they'll find themselves without options to reconnect. After all, who would trust them to "return to the fold?"

Not me. They bought the ticket. Stay on the ride. No rainchecks. No refunds.

Expand full comment

Well said, Ed!

Expand full comment

True and we have to encourage those who live in those districts who feel safe enough to at least visit their offices and let their frustrations be known...they can run and hide but we will still find them..and let's encourage those constituents to write to their local papers reminding them what a democracy is supposed to look like...elected representatives who are availabl to all their constituents, not just those who support musktrump and who support cutting all safety net programs for their constituents.

Expand full comment

Just because they have stopped doing town halls for fear of their lives does not mean we need to be silent. We cannot be silent. If we are silent they will think we either don't care or agree with what they are doing. Maybe the best we can do are phone calls, emails, letters to the editor, and when possible personal visits to offices.

Expand full comment

My congressman, Dave Joyce (R-OH), did one townhall that I am aware of about 8 years ago. It worked like this. Five people at a time were allowed to come in the room, sit at a table and do who knows what? So now people in my district are having what I call "town halls in reverse". They go to his office in Mentor, OH, and cram 20 people in there to leave a personal message with the aide. I am not aware of him ever showing up at the Mentor office.
