I had the privilege of sitting down with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a leader who isn’t just talking about fighting back against Trump’s reckless policies—he’s actually doing it. And winning.
We kicked things off with his major victory: Shapiro sued the federal government after Trump’s administration froze $2.1 billion in funds meant for Pennsylvania. This wasn’t just bureaucratic red tape—this was money meant to fix collapsing roads, clean up abandoned mine fields, and stop methane leaks harming the health of Pennsylvanians. Trump and his cronies thought they could pull a fast one, but Shapiro took them to court and got every last dollar back.

This is what leadership looks like. It’s about standing up for the people, not bending the knee to billionaire donors and far-right extremists. While Trump and his enablers lie about “fake” voter concerns, Governor Shapiro is out in deep-red parts of Pennsylvania, actually listening. And guess what? Even in these Republican-leaning areas, people are fed up. They see the damage being done. They don’t want Medicaid slashed. They don’t want their Social Security and personal data handed over to some 20-something “tech bros” who worship Elon Musk. They want real leadership that works for them.
And then there’s Trump’s absolute betrayal of America’s veterans. His administration’s budget cuts disproportionately harm those who’ve served. Meanwhile, he cozies up to dictators like Putin, making America weaker on the global stage. As Governor Shapiro put it, we need a president who wants to be leader of the free world, not someone looking to join an “axis of evil” with Russia and North Korea.
Through it all, Shapiro remains focused on what actually matters—protecting Pennsylvania families, investing in childcare and education, and ensuring that every community, red or blue, gets the resources they need.
This is why elections matter. This is why our voices matter. We need leaders like Josh Shapiro who fight for us, not for themselves. And elected officials all over the nation should look to the governor’s success in taking on Trump and beating him—and replicate that everywhere.
Let’s stay focused.
