Audible gasps echoed through Capitol Hill today as Donald Trump announced two shocking nominations for his potential administration: Matt Gaetz for Attorney General and Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence (DNI). No, this isn’t satire—it’s horrifyingly real life (though real life these days may put The Onion out of business). As Rep. Jared Moskowitz bluntly put it, “This is what MAGA wanted.”

Let’s break this down.

The mere suggestion of Matt Gaetz as the nation’s top law enforcement official is enough to make anyone cringe—Republicans included. According to CNN’s Annie Grayer, GOP members were meeting behind closed doors when they heard the news. Their reaction? Audible gasps. Rep. Don Bacon had "no good comment." Kevin McCarthy ally Rep. Garret Graves literally fled reporters, using other members as human shields. Even Sen. Chuck Grassley reportedly stood in stunned silence for 30 seconds, visibly exasperated. What courage! (sarcasm)

And it’s not just the theatrics. Gaetz has never served as a prosecutor, or in any substantial legal role that would prepare him to lead the Justice Department. As our editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski aptly noted, "Shouldn’t the Attorney General have, I don’t know, practiced law at some point?" Instead, Gaetz has built his career on outlandish stunts, from calling Roe v. Wade supporters “fat and ugly” to bizarre claims about the Barbie movie discouraging men from voting.

The same Gaetz has also faced serious allegations, including accusations of sexual misconduct and drug use. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy once referred to Gaetz as “unhinged,” while GOP Sen. Markwayne Mullin recounted Gaetz’s bizarre bragging about crushing erectile dysfunction pills and chasing them with energy drinks.

This is Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Justice.

Trump’s nomination of Tulsi Gabbard for DNI is equally jaw-dropping. Gabbard, once a fringe Democrat, has repeatedly parroted Russian propaganda. From falsely claiming there are U.S.-funded bio-labs in Ukraine to aligning with Kremlin narratives, Gabbard has shown herself to be an apologist for Vladimir Putin’s disinformation campaigns.

Hillary Clinton once described Gabbard as being groomed by Russia to disrupt American politics—a claim dismissed as hyperbole by some at the time but now eerily prescient. VoteVets, a prominent veterans’ group, called her nomination “dangerous and reckless,” warning that she would use intelligence resources to serve Trump’s ego, not America’s safety.

Pairing Gabbard with Gaetz paints a dystopian portrait of Trump’s vision: an administration of unqualified, extremist loyalists who prioritize personal allegiance over the Constitution.

So how in the world will Trump get these dangerous picks approved by the U.S. Senate? Well, Trump reportedly plans to bypass Senate confirmation for these nominees through recess appointments. This tactic, rarely used, would allow him to install his picks without the standard vetting process, effectively giving him free rein to govern like an autocrat.

This brazen move underscores what many feared about a second Trump term: total obliteration of institutional norms and checks on executive power. Trump’s nominations are a stark reminder of the stakes. He isn’t just running for president—he’s running to dismantle democracy. And now, he is installing his loyalists to do just that.

This isn’t just a national embarrassment; it’s an international crisis. Allies worldwide are reportedly stunned, questioning what is happening to the United States. And frankly, so are we. The nominations of Gaetz and Gabbard are a glimpse into a chilling future where Trump prioritizes loyalty over competence, chaos over order, and his personal power over the American people.

This is why we fight. These nominations prove we can’t take our democracy for granted. Share this video, talk to your friends, and stay informed—because the fight for our country is more important than ever.
