If you had an ounce of couth, you would realize what Meidas has done here. Wrote about it with a bit a class, when none was in sight on the other sides.

Josh you are just a bebop Butthead trying to cause trouble on a true site that is trying to stand up for democracy. We’re not falling for your crap. We are absolutely not falling for your crap so you can be on here trolling all you want, but we are gonna push back against you because we know the Midas touch is absolutely calling out the bullshit of Trump and his stupid ass rhetoric and he is going to be held a accountable one way or another one day so go take a hike. You don’t like what MTN has to say you may leave. We will gladly show you the door on the way out. And yes, principle, if you are alignaligned with Trump is something you will not absolutely not understand!!!!

Everyone knows who this sponsor is. It's one of the most reputable newspapers in America. It was. Now they die in darkness by pandering to Trump.

Will just echo what we wrote above: they are a longstanding institution often celebrated for its role in shaping public discourse throughout our history, who recently took a stance just before the 2024 election that we simply couldn’t overlook. Out of respect to the buying agency we work with, we won't go further, but you all certainly know who the organization is and many of our viewers/readers have likely made a similar decision about supporting them in their personal lives already.

Expand full comment

Respect? BULLSHIT. If you're afraid to post the name you shouldn't have made the post!

Expand full comment

There is a difference between BS and respect. Your post is proof you don't know how to differentiate between the two--and civility.

Expand full comment

Settle down. Your behavior does not align with the respectable manner shown by MTN. You should trust them to know what we all stand for together.

Expand full comment

No, no, no Ms. Chamberlain. With all due respect, Meidas is all about transparency and honesty, not just trust. I, too, am concerned about the refusal to reveal the so-called "sponsor."

Expand full comment

What is your concern.? If you're concerned just do internal investigation and you will discern the company.

Expand full comment

Author did say "out of respect for the buying agency".

Expand full comment

Watch your mouth! Please remember to use respect here

Expand full comment

They said respect for the reputable buying agency, not respect for the sponsor. Big difference. Learn to read :)

Expand full comment

Learn to read is a big ask, I know, but every person who thinks they should reply to a story or comment should at least have an understanding of what was actually posted to begin with. It's not rocket science people! If you are always quick to throw negativity, maybe take a deep look at yourself & ask, are you really happy being so negative? Are the people around you happy?

Expand full comment

Well said!

So spend some time investigating those whom you DO support. Do their principles align with yours? When used judiciously, the internet can be your friend.

WaPo?

Expand full comment

i don't remember seeing any WaPo advertising on MTN.

Expand full comment

I heard some ad reads for WaPo. Not often, and I had hoped Meidas Touch ended that sponsorship a long time ago bc of how Bezos treats his workers, including being anti-union, and how he treats the businesses that sell on Amazon. But I heard a WaPo ad read on Meidas Touch not long ago, was disappointed, and then the news broke that Bezos stopped the paper from endorsing Harris. Of course he did - the FTC is suing Amazon and most likely would have taken some action against them if Harris had won. About a year ago Bezos hired a new WaPo CEO who worked for Rupert Murdoch for years. I assume MTN has finally cut ties with WaPo and hope they avoid unethical corporations and shady billionaires like this in the future!

yep it's WAPO and their refusal to support Harris. Fuck them, I cancelled a year ago when I saw the way their wind was blowing.

Expand full comment

Yeah for real - fuck them. About to give the finger to the LA Times as well.

Expand full comment

Also cancelled LA Times

Expand full comment

Don't know if it was WaPo but it wouldn't surprise me. About a year and half ago, some Rupert Murdoch skrulls from the UK took over senior editorial roles there. That's why and when WaPo started going to hell.

Expand full comment

It started going to hell when Catherine Graham's son sold the paper. If she was around today running the paper, I doubt very much it would be making the stand it is now.

Expand full comment

I had not realized WAPO was a sponsor of Meidas. As soon as they announced that they wouldn't nominate either for the presidential election we dropped them flat. They have been a part of my life for about 60 years since we lived in the Washington area (northern VA).

Same. I declined to renew in February of 2023 due to their constant nitpicking of Biden and democrats in general while sane-washing trump's BS. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I also canceled them years ago

Expand full comment

We did too

Expand full comment

I still keep my WaPo sub for everything BUT politics because I really like the rest of their reporting.

Expand full comment

WaPo still has excellent reporters. It's the owner and the senior editors who are the problem.

The main thing I will miss of WAPO at this point is their coverage of the National Zoo and the PANDAS!!!!

Expand full comment

Not sure what the NYer has said about the WaPo’s spinelessness, BUT I do love the NYer, which I’ve been reading for decades. Jane Mayer just wrote a profile of Pete Hegseth that should be required reading for every senator. Andy Borowitz has been great lately. And I highly recommend David Remnick’s podcast, too!

Expand full comment

They also wrote a great piece about the large exodus of OB GYN MD's from Texas.

NYer fired Andy Borowitz. That is when he started his own substack. Another scumbag owned magazine: NYer. I canceled my subscription when they let AB go under the new ownership.

I should say I won't read the politics section and very rarely the op-eds anymore.

Maybe they can’t legally say who it is yet?

Expand full comment

Perhaps.

Expand full comment

Maybe it's just click bait.

Expand full comment

Can't legally say? Never stopped MAGAS before.

Expand full comment

Who would the SPONSOR sue if they sued Maga! It’s not an Organization with a CEO, a board. It’s essentially a brand that Trump uses to make money off his own people. Whereas Midas may be speaking the truth, but SPONSOR has the money to put them under or make them spend all their time in courtrooms defending themselves. Midas is absolutely correct to let you figure out who it was. They’re not committing libel or slander against anyone. Just informing you of their actions and what they stand for.

I had a horrible feeling that it was WaPo.

Was WAPO paying MTN? That doesn't make sense. Ben said it was a sponsor and MTN paid them for a subscription.

Expand full comment

They advertised in some of the segments. Offering a discounted price for subscriptions. As I recall, the MeidasTouch presenter would read the ad info).

Expand full comment

Yes, I heard one WaPo ad read months ago. Anyway, if it is WaPo, good riddance. It ain't Katharine Graham's paper any more.

Expand full comment

WaPo is frantically trying to gain readers back by offering deep discounts. I heard their ad on another podcast. These ad buys are placed by agencies, they are looking to reach their target audience for their client, such as this audience, and others like it. The buys are pretty quick and a Podcaster might not even immediately know about new ad buys. No loss, the agency is just told not place their ads on this platform.

Expand full comment

Interesting. I listen to Meidas all the time, and I've never heard a WAPO commercial. Never.

Expand full comment

I heard it a few times. There have been ads from WaPo on Meidas Touch. It's true.

Expand full comment

Was WAPO paying MTN? That doesn't make sense. Ben said it was a sponsor and MTN paid them for a subscription.

Expand full comment

That's not what Ben said. Someone else said that it was WaPo that offered a discounted subscription to MTN viewers. But a sponsor gives a cut of those sales to MTN. Like with FUME and others. It's not out of the ordinary whatsoever, and if it was in fact WaPo, which does make sense despite being speculation, then what Ben said is that they no longer accept money from them for ad time. That's all there is to it.

It is WAPO! It is. And it makes perfect sense.

THANK YOU for the question.

Jan 20 is the END OF DEMOCRACY. It is NOT OK for us to sit here saying, “We must RESIST!” or “in 4 years” as if that does ANYTHING when a monster has the reigns of every part of government and more.

We can NOT GIVE the largest, most powerful military in the history of earth to a mad man who says he intends on turning it on citizens and residents. That is NOT an option. SO a plan and implementation has to be done. Only 1 in 3 citizens voted for trump. Russia PHYSICALLY interfered with our election. That is an act of WAR. Nearly 40% didn’t even vote because of Russian misinformation. We have FIVE WEEKS.

Other nations are facing the same election interference we had and their citizens are IN THE STREETS.

WHY are we just sitting here, marching to our deaths, pretending this is just any old election or pretending that Putin didn’t interfere? I do not get it. This is not normal behavior.

Expand full comment

The America I grew up in would NEVER have just rolled over and handed the country to a fascist. Never.

I don’t give a damn how “legitimate” the thing appears. People have been manipulated into believing complete garbage by our corporate media and millions of dollars worth of bots and trolls operating on social media for over a decade. Is that a “legitimate” election? I said it 8 years ago: we are under attack by Russia and other bad actors and this is WAR. I love Joe Biden, but I’m pretty damn fed up with his behavior and the behavior of other elected democrats since the election. Given the catastrophe that just happened, I fully expected our party leaders to step up, tell us how to prepare, advise us on how to protect ourselves, our money, our homes. They’re making baskets for Thanksgiving and yammering on about things they’ve passed that will be flushed down the toilet by Trump. I’ve never seen the party behave so stupidly out of touch. I mean, this is for the whole enchilada folks. This is us destroyed completely and not a fucking word from anyone to assuage even SOME of our fears. It’s shameful. I’m ashamed of the democrats. The leadership and the DNC are not the fighters we need. These scholarly, pontificating, pleased with themselves-types are killing us. They also pissed away one BILLION dollars. I don’t see how that isn’t just more “moving money out of the middle class”, same as the republicans have done for 50 years. Have you seen the laughable leadership list? SSDD, man. Pathetic. And yeah, the ATM thing. I gave thousands over the course of Joe’s campaign and Kamala’s. I know it isn’t George Clooney money, but percentage of my wealth-wise, I bet I gave a hell of a lot more than he did. And what’s my reward? They’re still asking for money. Until we get the old rich people the hell out of the way, nothing will change. They are weak. And they are too damn comfortable.

Expand full comment

Great comment!

However, I DO NOT think it is the age of the people that is a problem. No doubt, time for young blood but that did not occur in the past because THE YOUNG PEOPLE DIDN’T SHOW UP, not because they were pushed out. Our young people, like our men, have been failing for a looooong time. Trust me, we tried. This ageism does not help anyone.

Let’s just focus on what we need done, rather than bashing each other.
