MeidasTouch and Brian Karem on Trump Attacking Media

A recording from MeidasTouch's latest Meidas Meet Up on Substack live!

Hi Meidas Mighty,

We’ve been building something special with our new Meidas Meet Up series, bringing you the most important pro-democracy voices every Thursday at 1 PM EST/10 AM PST right here live on Substack.

After powerful conversations with Adam Kinzinger and Jim Acosta, we had another hard-hitting discussion this week with legendary journalist Brian Karem, and let’s just say—he didn’t hold back.

Brian has been a White House reporter for decades, and he’s one of the few who isn’t afraid to call out Trump for the dictator wannabe that he is. Of course, that’s why Trump’s team has done everything in their power to ban him from the press pool. This is how authoritarianism works: control the press, shape the narrative, and flood the zone with bullshit.

Karem detailed how Trump has engineered a shadow ban on real journalists—handpicking the reporters who get to ask questions, stacking the room with sycophants, and weaponizing press briefings into MAGA pep rallies. Trump knows that he can’t handle real scrutiny, so he avoids it altogether. And now, his campaign has literally banned the Associated Press from covering his events, all because they reported the actual name of the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, really.

What’s worse, the collapse of local journalism has made this propaganda strategy even more effective. As Karem pointed out, 45% of U.S. counties have no local news outlet, creating vast information voids that are filled by right-wing disinformation machines like Fox News and Sinclair. Trump’s strongest support comes from news deserts, where people lack access to independent, fact-based reporting.

So what do we do?

First, fight back with the truth. We’re already beating Fox News on digital and Joe Rogan in the podcast charts because people are hungry for facts—and we’re only getting started. (Remember to add the MeidasTouch Podcast on audio on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.)

Second, show up. The silent majority isn’t MAGA; it’s the millions of Americans who don’t vote. That has to change. Trump’s supporters turn out—we have to match and exceed them.

Third, hold the press and politicians accountable. As Karem put it, “You work for us, we don’t work for you.” Flood their offices with calls, demand real coverage, and support independent media that isn’t bought and paid for by billionaires trying to install their own puppet dictatorship.

This fight isn’t just about Trump. It’s about whether we still have a democracy at all. And we’re not just going to sit back and let billionaires like Elon Musk and Donald Trump screw us over.
