I'm so pissed off that the rest of the country, who didn't drink the Kool-aid, has to suffer because the Traitor Repugnantcans swallowed gallons of his total BS!

The only satisfaction will be watching thrm suffer too. I have no Sympathy for them at all.

Exactly

Bigger percentage of the us that didn’t vote for him.

What were these voters thinking? Believing?

I heard a Maga in a call in show say, "We don't want a moral leader. We want someone who will lower prices." 'Nuf said.

Expand full comment

The statement about the moral leader has got to be the most pathetic one I have heard

Expand full comment

Yeah. Who could ever think of Trump as a "moral leader"?

Expand full comment

Depends on what your morals are. Even not having any is a moral position. Think in terms of 0 to 100. Jimmy Carter is 99.9999. Mump is .000000000000000000000001.

I have a friend, a former Canadian I am ashamed to say, who voted for Trump because she wants America to be white....or at least for America to be a place where whites are ascendant. She liked the deportation plan and the hope of a sealed border.

Expand full comment

For your own peace of mind. It's time make that Former Canadian a Former Friend!

I certainly don't feel the same about her after hearing that. She also repeated that MAGA line about not liking Kamala Harris' "cackle"...that really bothered me. Is using that term racist, sexist or both?

Expand full comment

You are referring to a racist as a "friend"??

Expand full comment

Yes, there is really no going back after hearing stuff like that. She's more of an acquaintance now...

Don't you hate that? When someone says something like that, I lose total respect and/or affection for them.

Hah! And they will get NEITHER!!

At least they're honest. Too bad they're only getting half of what they wanted.

For many of them, their thoughts were, and even are, no longer their own. As I just commented, the manipulation of their ability to perceive fact has been a decades-long project of right-wing mercenary media, in the propaganda business for nothing more brutal than exploitation of those who got sucked into the cult unknowingly, and whise brains can't quite understand that they are even more victimized than they thought -- manipulated by the long-term effort to take over their perceptions.

Expand full comment

I agree re disinformation and propaganda, but 49% of us voters DID NOT believe the bullshit. We were equally exposed, yet we chose truth, justice, fairness in the workplace, bodily autonomy for women, empathy and try to build community. So I ask, why didn’t we choose to drink the drugged koolaid of MAGA? Many of these are not low information voters. I believe they choose based on grievances, they blame the victims for their current circumstances rather than looking at corporate America. Do I feel sorry for them? No. Are some of them good people? They may not be axe murderers, but they have deep prejudices, believe bad shit shouldn’t be happening to them, and/or refuse to think for themselves.

All Trump voters need to look at their motives, of course. True, there are the truly cynical who literally bet against themselves as Americans, as well as against American democracy, out of greed, out of fear, or just out of antipathy towards other options, without considering the ramifications.

But there are some people, who for whatever reason, usually psychological, are more vulnerable than others to manipulation by sociopaths such as Trump. That is why con men, for example, can pick out of a crowded room who will be an easy mark and who won't. If they can find those at a psychological low-point in their lives, or who feel otherwise that they have been betrayed or treated unfairly, they make the best marks.

MAGA emerged because for decades now, there has been steady, creeping spread of ideas on the right which, under the guise of American individualism and an unrealistic idealization of the so-called "free market" economy, argued against that investment in our future, in all kinds of ways.

That is one reason why, to my mind, those among the least politically active or aware, as well as those who either consciously or by default chose personal wealth over societal investment, share the blame for what has happened -- because It has always been incumbent upon all Americans to strengthen the fairness of our society -- if not out of a sense of social responsibility -- then for our own protection.

The bottom line is, our messaging did not work. Campaigning by spending a BILLION dollars in the 1980's paradigm did not win.

Not only "the rest of the country." i.e. MAGA voters , are to blame, as we are all suffering from years of Democrat passivity in the face of Mitch McConnell/Federalist Society treachery (ongoing passivity, still, -- ahem, Merrick Garland). How wrong have those Dems been who thought "the high road" would be a way around this political and governmental disaster. The failures to fight back began long ago.

He doesn't get another election. 2 terms and this is his second term. The he goes bye bye, but what kind of damage will he leave behind. We are in for a rough 4 years

I am referring to the midterm election in 2 years when we can take back the House and the Senate and stop his agenda.

A lot of really bad stuff can happen in two years.

The only silver lining is that MAGA and the GQP doesn't seem to be able to get much done in any time frame.

Yes, Anna, you're spot on. MAGA infighting (within the Hill and outside of it) dooms them. Even if Dumpty rides off to Boot Hill and we wind up with Vance we'll still be subject to "Presidential Elect Buddy" Elon Musk. Vance won't be any more $ucce$$ful in getting rid of him than Trump is!

I shouldn't say this, but maybe he will croak and do us all a favor, but then we would have JD Vance. I think that would be a travesty. To stay in power, he would have to change the constitution and thats not going to be easy. There will be other elections and his time will be up. Lets hope he doesn't screw up the country beyond repair.

There is a good chance Donald will not complete his presidency. I think JD, as repugnant as he is, would be better as a) no one likes him, not even his own party, and more importantly b) he could not hold the MAGA base. I don't think anyone but Trump can do that. In spite of Don Jr.'s hopes and dreams on that score...

His voters were alright with others suffering is why they believed him. Trump campaigned on "us versus them" and his followers stupidly bought his line of BS hook, line, and sinker. Remember when he said he'd "Protect women ... whether they like it or not?"

He is a pervert, an adulterer, and a liar. Why would any thinking person believe him? The only reason is because of everything he promised to do to RINOS and his perceived "political enemies" they supported. Trump's theme of "us versus them" gave MAGA a false (flimsy) impression of security, protection, and--yes, "immunity" by Trump's definition.

"Do anything, and I'll protect you!" How many JAN6 families did he financially support? How many of their legal bills has he paid? When only a "select few" are pardoned, what will the response be? It's not good [for him and his legion of devils], and we can take that to the bank.

They are the duped stupids who never figured on being lied to and abandoned. They thought he would be their Cyrus. He is their Jeroboam aka The Great Betrayor.
