In a new video, MeidasTouch’s red state contributor Tennessee Brando slams the recent clown show nominations by Donald Trump for his cabinet, especially the announcement that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the “Department of Government Efficiency,” a government department that doesn’t exist named after a cryptocurrency memecoin.

While Republicans used to be the party of limited government, now MAGA is giggling with delight over a president that just creates new government departments out of thin air, run by unelected billionaire oligarchs acting as bureaucrats, without understanding that a president can’t do that without congress, let alone a president-elect.

These moves, marketed as "cutting wasteful spending," are going to cause serious harm to everyday Americans by cutting back on things like the Department of Education, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ healthcare—but the last people MAGA are going to blame are Trump and Musk themselves. They will find some way to blame Democrats for it.

We are in a very dangerous place now, with Trump entrusting governance to inexperienced figures based on loyalty over competence and national security, such as nominating Fox News host Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Brando wonders what MAGA would say if President Biden nominated Rachel Maddow for SecDef. That would go over like a lead balloon.

Brando admits it is going to be rough four years, but he pledges to keep fighting back with all of us against Trump’s forces, both real and imaginary. And living in Tennessee, Brando is right in the trenches in the heart of this fight.

As the chaos ramps up, independent media is now more important than ever. Please consider becoming a paid subscriber now to keep our work going.
