Our blue dot in a red state reporter, Tennessee Brando, shines a light on the disconnect between the policies Donald Trump advocates for, and the interests of many of his supporters. Brando argues that Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy, like his buddies Elon Musk and other billionaire elites, come at the expense of safety net programs vital to working-class Americans, who voted largely for Donald Trump.
These voters think they are fighting perceived “others” who Trump tells them are their enemies, but actually they are only voting to hurt themselves and their families.
Brando shares a personal experience of him once arguing with a friend who said that working class people on government assistance are lazy and just looking for handouts, only to find out that the person he was speaking to was unemployed, and spent his days on Facebook railing against the very safety net programs he was using to survive. Brando is frank about the fact that where he lives people take advantage of government assistance all the time while attacking others in their same financial predicaments.
Brando torches the MAGA movement, who for 10 years has said “f**k your feelings,” who then turn around and completely vote on feeling and emotion instead of rational facts. He likens their support for Trump to "chickens voting for Colonel Sanders," emphasizing how their choices ultimately harm them and their families. Despite these challenges, Brando remains hopeful, urging us all to keep fighting and to continue standing on the right side of history.
