Trump’s Second Term Is Already a Disaster: Dem Congressman

Just days into his presidency, Trump is drowning in lawsuits, tanking the economy with tariffs, and running blatant corruption schemes—Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi warns the worst is yet to come.

The Trump administration isn’t even 48 hours old, and it’s already drowning in lawsuits. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joined MeidasTouch to break down the flurry of legal challenges piling up against Trump’s executive orders—particularly his illegal attack on birthright citizenship—and to call out the blatant corruption and chaos already unfolding.

Trump’s executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship is already facing multiple lawsuits, including one from the ACLU arguing that the order is a direct violation of the 14th Amendment. As Krishnamoorthi bluntly put it, “There is the law, and then there’s whatever Donald Trump is trying to do in the White House.” But, as history has shown, Trump’s attempts to override the Constitution won’t hold up in court. “You're going to see lawsuit after lawsuit, in my opinion, successfully challenging many of these executive orders,” he said.

The congressman also took aim at Trump’s economic incoherence, pointing out that while Trump promised to lower prices, his actual policies are doing the opposite. “They're not talking about lowering prices,” he said. “They’re talking about things that could increase prices, such as tariffs.” Trump’s proposed 25% tariff on Canadian imports, set to begin February 1st, will do nothing but drive up costs for American consumers—yet another example of Trump’s economic illiteracy.

Krishnamoorthi also expressed grave concern over Trump’s planned deportation raids, particularly in Chicago, where temperatures were below freezing. “We in Chicago were prepared for this possibility as soon as today,” he said, warning that these mass raids could have devastating consequences for families and communities. He also raised alarms over Trump’s efforts to use his birthright citizenship order to justify detaining or deporting people who are, in fact, U.S. citizens. “This is the type of fear that people are getting instilled with and that we have to fight with every fiber at this point.”

And then there’s Trump’s ongoing grift. Just before taking office, Trump launched yet another scam—a sketchy cryptocurrency scheme that Krishnamoorthi said reeked of corruption. “The White House really is for sale,” he said, noting that this administration will be just as corrupt—if not worse—than the first. He also pointed to reports that Amazon paid Melania Trump $40 million for her “life rights” for a documentary, calling it a suspicious and “questionable” deal.

Trump’s presidency has barely begun, and it’s already a legal and economic disaster. The lawsuits will keep coming, the economic pain will spread, and the grift will continue. But Krishnamoorthi made it clear: He is ready to fight back.
